Position and Responsibilities

 

As Cameco continues to seek ways to build meaningful long-term relationships and to create a more diverse and equitable workforce, we are offering apprenticeship opportunities to individuals from our Saskatchewan northern communities. Cameco is committed to supporting and developing our future workforce by building careers in the trades.  As such, our Rabbit Lake Operation is seeking individuals interested in the Saskatchewan apprenticeship program and has both Industrial Mechanic and Electrician apprenticeship positions available.

 

Working with an experienced Industrial Mechanic journeyperson, your responsibilities will include:

Performing predictive and preventative maintenance checks on a regular basis to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Completing repairs and overhauls on equipment and piping systems on surface and underground and learning to perform basic welding repairs.
Troubleshooting equipment failures and documenting repairs.
Working with an experienced Electrician journeyperson, your responsibilities will include:

Safely installing, maintaining, testing and troubleshooting of electrical equipment in all areas of the operation, both underground and on surface.
Safely completing repairs to high voltage switching, overhead power lines, transformers, electrical distribution and AC/DC variable speed electric drive controllers.
Troubleshooting equipment failures and documenting repairs.
Through on-the-job training, hands on experience and technical education/training, you will be expected to progress through the apprenticeship program, eventually attaining fully qualified journeyperson status.

 

Applicants considered for these positions must submit a copy of the grade 12 or equivalent transcript and will be required to complete a series of educational and competency-based assessments.

 

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

Possess a grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
Meet all qualification standards to be accepted for a training apprenticeship by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC).
Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
The Rabbit Lake apprenticeship positions are only open to Residents of Saskatchewan’s North (RSN) from the Black Lake, Fond du Lac and Hatchet Lake First Nations and the communities of Stony Rapids, Uranium City, Camsell Portage and Wollaston Lake, as outlined in the Collaboration Agreements.
